Guinness world record - Cross channel balloon flight achievement

Southern Plasticlad joined a Hot Air Balloon fleet, setting a new Guinness world record for the number of craft to have crossed the English Channel.

The fleet of 82 hot air balloons flew from Dover to Calais early on Friday morning, in an attempt to beat the current world record for the largest group of air balloons to cross the Channel, which stands at 49.

The voyage began at 6.10am on Friday morning and landed safely in Calais less than three hours later, after flying across the busiest shipping lane in the world.

Southern Plasticlad is very proud of our installation Manager, Dean Turner who was lucky enough to be one of the balloon retrievers taking part in this fantastic event.  Dean has been working hard towards his pilot’s licence for the last 8 months which will enable him to fly the Southern Plasticlad balloon at many events, including Bristol Balloon Festival.

See below for a selection of images taken during the flight.
